While the mechanics of this game are quite simple, becoming good at Squad Busters takes more than that. Being a beginner, it can be quite overwhelming to know which strategies work and how to get first place in your lobby every time. To help you with that, here's a beginner's guide with all the tips and tricks that you should know.

Always Create Balanced Teams

Squad Busters: 8 Beginner Tips (2)

When you start any match in Squad Busters, you need to choose characters that you can recruit from chests to create your squad. To make a strong squad, you need to pay close attention to your overall team composition. Characters in Squad Busters fit one of three roles: Melee, Ranged, and Support.

  • Your team should consist of at least more than one melee character to act as a tank, like El Primo or Barbarian.
  • You should also have one or more ranged units since they are responsible for dealing the most damage.
  • Having at least one support character is also needed to make your team viable, even in the late game.

Some characters might fall into more than a single role. For example, the Hog Rider is essentially a melee character, but his passive skill provides a boost to movement speed, which also makes him a support unit.

Choose Your Characters Carefully

Squad Busters: 8 Beginner Tips (3)

Now that you know which kind of team you should be aiming for, you should also be mindful of the characters you're choosing to make that team. The characters in Squad Busters aren't created equal and have various rarities. But, that's not all. Their level of evolution also affects their overall usability.

A unit's evolution level is more important in Squad Buster than their rarity. The abilities of a two-star common rarity character are better than a one-star rare rarity character, and even some epic rarity ones.

When choosing characters from the chest, you should first prefer units that you can fuse. If none of them are duplicates, then prioritize getting units of the highest evolution level. Finally, all the characters in your options have the same evolution level, then choose based on their rarity.

Be Sure To Collect Portal Energy

Squad Busters: 8 Beginner Tips (4)

Portal Energy is a kind of resource that you can acquire from evolving characters in Squad Busters. Every time you evolve a one-star unit, you are rewarded with 100 Portal energy. The amount of portal energy you can acquire from evolution increases by 100 for every star.

The best way to maximize your Portal energy gains is by evolving multiple one-star characters rather than trying to get three-star or higher characters. You can collect duplicates from the Shop, prioritizing the easiest evolution over higher star levels.

You can acquire new characters, chests and even chest tickets by upgrading your level in the 'Squad Journey' by collecting Portal Energy. If you collect sufficient Portal energy, you can travel to new worlds and unlock new characters.

Finish The Beginner Challenge

Squad Busters: 8 Beginner Tips (5)

When you first start playing Squad Busters as a beginner, you'll get an option to complete the 'Beginner Challenge'. You'll get nine quests that you need to complete by playing matches, and you'll be rewarded with gold, chests and much more.

While these quests might seem a bit lengthy, they are quite easy to complete and are extremely rewarding. Be sure to finish all the quests regularly to get a new set of rewards when you log in the next day.

Make Sure To Complete Evolutions

Squad Busters: 8 Beginner Tips (6)

Evolutions play an essential role in Squad Busters. You can evolve every character if you collect ten copies of them, and use it to unlock a higher-star version of that character. Evolved characters have new and better abilities than their devolved counterparts. Here are the best ways through which you can get characters in Squad Busters:

  • You can get lots of characters for free by playing and completing matches. The higher you place, the more characters you can get.
  • Apart from playing matches, the second-best option to get lots of characters is buying them from the in-game shop. You can regularly find some characters for free in the shop.
  • Lastly, you can acquire characters from Chests that appear on the Home screen every eight hours or by completing events and challenges.

You can only get one-star characters from chests or shops. Upon collecting ten copies of them, you can get one copy of a two-star version of that card. You need to collect ten copies of that to unlock the three-star version and repeat the same to get the four-star version, which is the highest evolution level.

Know Which Game Mode You're Playing

Squad Busters: 8 Beginner Tips (7)

Every match in Squad Busters has two components that you need to know about. The first part is the 'Map' and the second is the 'Battle Mod'. As you can guess from the name, the map part decides the kind of map on which the match will take place.

'Battle Mods', on the other hand, are unique modifiers that are selected randomly before every game and put a twist to every match. These modifiers can be effects like 'Double characters acquired from the chest', 'Increased Spell Drop' and much more.

There are more than 22 Battle Mods in Squad Busters right now, each having a different effect on your gameplay. Here are all the battle mods in Squad Busters, and what effects that might have on your gameplay:

Try To Maintain A Win Streak

Squad Busters: 8 Beginner Tips (8)

After every match, your placement is noted and every time you place in the top five, you can consider it a victory. Based on your placement, you are rewarded with some 'Power Up' points which are then used when you open chests.

The best way to consistently rank in the top five would be to prioritize farming characters for the first few minutes of the game. Once the Gem Mine opens, rush to the center and engage Squads to gather more gems as well as collect them from the Gem Mine.

If you can consistently place in the top five and maintain a winning streak, you'll be rewarded with additional 'Power Up' points. Using these points, you can upgrade the rarity as well as the number of characters you acquire from a chest, which makes your chests more valuable.

Learn How Chests Work

Squad Busters: 8 Beginner Tips (9)

One more aspect that you should learn about is the chests in Squad Busters. The lowest rarity chest in Squad Busters is 'Common', followed by 'Rare' and finally 'Epic.' Apart from rarity, there is also a component of size involved.

Free chests regularly spawn on the home screen, which can be seen as a jumping red chest. Be sure to collect it every eight hours, since there is no notification or message about it spawning.

The smallest size of a chest is the initial size, followed by 'Big' and then 'Very Big'. The bigger the chest, the more characters you get as a reward from it. You need to use more power-up points to increase both the size and the rarity of the chest.
