Helena Marinho (PhD, University of Sheffield, 2004) is Associate Professor (with tenure) at the Department of Communication and Art of the University of Aveiro (Portugal), and coordinates the Institute of Ethnomusicology - Centre of Studies in Music and Dance branch of the University of Aveiro. Her main research interests include performance research, and 20th/21st Portuguese music history and musical practice. Helena Marinho combines a performing career with academic and artistic research. Her publications include book chapters published by Colibri, Caminho, Imperial College Press, Brepols, Editions Hispaniques, and articles for Musica Hodie, Opus, E-Cadernos CES, Psychology of Music, Musicae Scientiae, Studies in Musical Theatre. She is regularly invited to present her research at national and international conferences, and was in 2018 visiting researcher at the Orpheus Institute. Since 2014, she has led three multiannual large-scale research projects financed by European funds and the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, on themes ranging from gender studies to experimental musical practices. She was panel member for the evaluation of projects for the European Commission Culture Programme in 2012, and jury member for the research scholarships applications of the Foundation for Science and Technology (2012-15).
