Cannibal Corpse will release their fifteenth studio album, Violence Unimagined, on April 16 through Metal Blade Records.

Encyclopaedia Metallum: The Metal Archives :: View topic - Cannibal Corpse (1)

Tracklisting:
1. Murderous Rampage
2. Necrogenic Resurrection
3. Inhumane Harvest
4. Condemnation Contagion
5. Surround, Kill, Devour
6. Ritual Annihilation
7. Follow the Blood
8. Bound and Burned
9. Slowly Sawn
10. Overtorture
11. Cerements of the Flayed

The first single, Inhumane Harvest, premiered on SiriusXM and has made its way to YouTube. It does sound like Erik Rutan recorded guitars for the album, since his fingerprints are all over this song (especially the solo).

Spoiler: show

Sounds basically the same as Red Before Black, but I liked that album plenty because it turns out Cannibal just going full speed ahead with no new tricks for forty minutes means you get albums that just kick ass for forty minutes. The slower section roughly two minutes in is f*cking raw as hell though, I really liked that bit. Cover art sucks but they've been struggling with this for a decade now, at least I'm happy Locke finally moved away from "scary guy with a knife" I guess?

Does anybody know what the situation is with the lineup right now? I haven't really followed what's been going on with Pat over the last year. I heard about Erik Rutan filling in but does anybody know if that includes this album?

From what I've heard Pat O'Brien isn't playing on the album, so I guess that means Rutan is stepping in. I don't know if he's just a session member or has joined full time though (I guess that depends on the status of Pat's legal issues).

According to this very site, Pat is still an official member so yeah I think it's gonna depend on how the case ends up (wild how it's been what, two years now and I'm not even sure if he's gone to trial yet? America is very efficient). I've been saying for a long while now that if he or Rob ever steps away that Erik would be the most obvious replacement, so I'm willing to bet he's just waiting in the wings just in case. The song certainly doesn't sound like a Pat song though so that's not a helpful clue, lol.

Interesting cover... And the single sounds decent, so this album might be pretty good.

Who's ready to return to the Cannibal Corpse Album Ranking thread once this album comes out?

Pat is a key part of my favorite era of CC so I'm hoping he makes it back. Will get this of course when it comes out. I think I'm going to hold off on that song until a high quality release comes out...who am I kidding. Going to listen to it now.

There's a thin line between consistency and mediocrity. CC is going for the latter.

My guess is that Erik is a session member helping out his best friends until they figure out where they're going to go, since Cannibal can't afford to pay him what he makes with Mana and I don't think he wants to have to give up Hate Eternal either.

Speaking of, does anyone know if there's any new Hate Eternal material in the works?

You might be thinking of the ''KILL'' album cover that they put inside the sleeve instead of the front (They changed it to just say KILL instead.)?

I still don't understand why they changed the album cover for Kill.

In fact, is it just me, or are CC covers getting more tamer in recent years?

This is more of Cannibal Corpse being Cannibal Corpse in just about every way. I love it.

And yeah, the covers are getting tamer.

Great song. Cannibal Corpse just doing what they do best.

Corpsegrinder's vocals are somehow getting beefier with age. He sounds great.

That definitely looks a lot better, and the gore is on par with some of the older covers. I'm sure the tamer one OP shared is for streaming services.

O'brien is responsible for some of my all-time favorite Cannibal Corpse songs and moments so I'm a little bummed that he's not gonna be contributing to this one.

Song's decent, definitely looking forward to hearing the full album. If it's as solid as Red Before Black, I'll be pretty satisfied.

Love the single. I definitely wish they would go back to more extreme/violent/shocking album covers, but I think they've made the conscious effort to tone it down in order to keep the cashflow at an optimum. But so long as the music doesn't suffer, that's fine.

Check out the link posted elsewhere in this thread. The real album art is their most graphic in a long time.

They apparently didn't think the piece that Locke gave them was cover material, hence the bland cover for Kill. They are definitely getting less gruesome (though the unfolded Torture cover was easily one of their most graphic since the Barnes era), but, honestly, they're a veteran act that hasn't meaningfully benefited from shock value or concerned and inordinately vocal parents giving them press for a long time, so gruesome Cannibal covers are kinda just a formality at this point. I actually liked the cover for A Skeletal Domain, it managed to be ominous and creepy in a way that Cannibal covers haven't ever really been.

So is O’Brien just taking a break until his legal stuff is done? Makes sense to me if that’s the case.

Edit: It’s up on Apple Music!

Unpopular opinion: I never liked Vince Locke covers. They always looked too cartoonish, and I suppose they always will because Locke's a comic book cartoonist, not a realistic artist.

I gave the new single a listen. Nothing to write home about... Cannibal Corpse are nothing if not consistent, but their age is showing in this song. There's no shortage of creativity in the riff-writing department, but the music is noticeably slower and the lead guitars by Erik Rutan are way too melodic. Plus they're still suffering from their post-Bleeding pitfall of lack of repeating motifs and memorable songwriting.

I just hope Pat is alright and recovering/recovered from his ordeal. Dude has made so much amazing music in his life, shame to see such a stalwart member of metal just loose it like that. At least he's still alive and kicking though.

Post subject:Re: Cannibal Corpse - Violence Unimagined
The main riff strikes me as a bit too light, but that middle riff is pretty hard and heavy.

I kind of forgot to listen to any new CC album after Kill, but perhaps it's high time to start keeping up again.

The cover is a bit bland, and I think Locke's covers have become increasingly bland over the years, but I've always liked that all the CC covers share that art style. I'd take that any day over over-blown digital art like that of newer Aborted, or run-of-the-mill gore like any of the brutal death metal bands roaming the streets these days. At least Locke has a lot of authenticity and personality in his art style.

This album comes in at 43 mins. I like albums like this as they would have fit on one side of a C90 cassette back in the day. That would have suited me as I got most albums as copies from friends and hated missing out on a song or two if the album was more than 45 mins. Fot this alone, this album gets the thumbs up from me regardless of content.

Apparently Rutan has officially replaced O'Brien and helped co-write the new album. I'm in favor of this personally since I'm a huge fan of Rutan's playing but it's definitely gonna change their dynamic. For now I'll say I'm cautiously optimistic.

I personally can't wait for another shot to the brains from the veterans.

The (censored?) cover in the first post is definitely tame, but here in Austria music mags generally show the uncensored art which is about as brutal as it gets post-Barnes, I also get "Gallery of Suicide" vibes from that one.

Rutan stepping in could be a nice addition.
